2022 SSCS Outstanding Chapter Award
The Solid-State Circuits Society Switzerland Chapter received the 2022 SSCS Outstanding Chapter Award at the 2023 IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC). Prof. Taekwang Jang (chair), Michel Bron (vice chair), Mathieu Coustans (secretary), and Domenico Pepe (industrial relation coordinator) have led the chapter offering various seminars, lectures, and social events for the IEEE members, students, and local community.
2022 ISSCC Outstanding Forum Speaker Award
Prof. Taekwang Jang received the 2022 ISSCC Outstanding Forum Speaker Award at the 2023 IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC). His speech entitled "Sensor Interface, Analog, and Mixed-Signal Circuits for Miniaturized IoT Devices" discussed challenges and innovations for IoT systems.
2022-2023 IEEE SSCS Predoctoral Achievement Award
Alessandro Novello, a Ph.D. candidate under the supervision of Prof. Taekwang Jang, received 2022-2023 SSCS Predoctoral Achievement Award. The SSCS Predoctoral Achievement Award is an annual award given by the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS) to recognize and honor outstanding achievements by predoctoral students in the field of solid-state circuits. It is based on the evaluation of a student's research achievements, academic record, and potential for future research contributions.
2022 ISSCC Jan Van Vessem Award for Outstanding European Paper
In the 2023 IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC), members of the Energy Efficient Circuits and IoT Systems (EECIS) group, Youngwoo Ji, Jiawei Liao, Sina Arjmandpour, Alessandro Novello and Prof. Taekwang Jang received the ISSCC 2022 Jan Van Vessem Award for the outstanding European paper, together with a collaborator, Jae-Yoon Sim, of Postech, Korea. After 2021, this is the second time in a row that Prof. Jang's team received this award.
The paper proposed a new on-chip oscillator topology, R-RC oscillator, that achieves second-order temperature compensation and less than 8 ppm/°C temperature dependency in a wide temperature range from -40°C to 125°C. Also, it proposed a delay-locked loop that samples the R-RC transition waveform to make the period of the oscillator independent of the comparator delay. You can find more information about the paper external page here.
EECIS receives 2021 Jan Van Vessem Award for Outstanding European Paper from ISSCC
Alessandro Novello, Gabriele Atzeni, Giorgio Cristiano, Mathieu Coustans, and Prof. Taekwang Jang receive the "2021 Jan Van Vessem Award for Outstanding European Paper" from ISSCC
21.02.2022
Our awarded paper, titled “A 1.25GHz Fully Integrated DC-DC Converter Using Electromagnetically Coupled Class-D LC Oscillators,” introduces a new DC-DC converter topology that achieves > 1W/mm2 power density through the electromagnetic power delivery in a 180nm CMOS technology. The proposed method greatly simplifies the DC-DC converter design by eliminating auxiliary circuits such as non-overlapping clock generators, level shifters, and pulse width modulation circuits. At the same time, the proposed duty cycling scheme maintains the peak efficiency of the DC-DC converter in a very wide output power range from µW to W. The application space of the proposed design includes micro-controllers and power amplifiers where area-efficient power conversion is required with good efficiency.
